Thousands of people use free e-mail services and other online services even though they know companies develop marketing profiles using their information. 1) Are you willing to give up some privacy to get free products and/or receive recommendations for books, CDs, videos, news articles, and/or other goods and services that you might want? 2) What kind of safeguards do you use to protect your privacy?
I mind my own business and don’t talk to Americans. Only immigrants. And therefore, i don’t have that problem.
maybe you shouldnt use the internet if ur so concerned about privacy
I tend not to get over concerned if what I am doing can increase my productivity. I stick only with large trustable companies (for example Windows Live Hotmail for my free e-mail service).
After registering with what I call a large trustable site, I go to my account settings page and never give information in my profile unless its 100% necessary. Like for Name, I’d just use my initials. For Date of Birth, I fake it. They don’t NEED to know (they probably don’t use it anyway), but why to give just for an e-mail account…
I don’t fill in any “personal interests” in their sign-up forms. Basically I keep it minimal, just enough to use the service.
For Hotmail, I never see their adverts either since I use Windows Live Mail (the program) to access my mail. http://download.live.com/
I also avoid signing up to multiple sites unnecessarily, and uncheck all those boxes that say do you want your info shared with carefully selected marketing companies – hell no!
At the same time, if I was too restrictive with my online activities, I’d get no where and learn less.
Hi, The only safeguard I consider effective is to not disclose any personal information that is not otherwise available from another source (such as an electoral register). To this extent, I treat junk e-mails in the same way as I treat Junk postal items (binned rather than opened), I Expect to have to disclose some personal information if I am buying goods or services online.
I would say do not give out any info over the internet. Dont think you get anything for free you dont
the simplest thing is that wen u make ur email ids keep in mind dat it doesn’t reflects u or resembles u in any manner that is, it should not give any idea f whom u are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
