What would that be called? I know I could major in Computer Science but I know after school I specifically want to do web development. How do I get around this? I found Web Development on college board and they renamed it Web/Multimedia Design (even though I’m not interested in the design aspect). I did a search and there wasn’t a single 4 year school that offered this major. Any help?
Web development is html, css and programming, so you want a CS degree. If the school offers specialization in web languages, take it, but programming is programming. You have to know the basics (which you get with a BSCS) whether you’re writing a database or a website.
Backend programming is just regular CS programming and even though it seems like PHP is the most popular language, Java is also a pretty popular web language, with JSP, JSF, servlets etc.
I would recommend at least a minor in web design/Multimedia, User Interface Design. BSCS with a few summer classes at a community college: HTML, CSS, Javascript, Flash (preferably actually called Actionscript 3.0). You can probably teach yourself HTML/CSS/Javascript pretty quickly, but flash a class is better so that you don’t have to buy flash.
Just remember, web programming is exactly like regular programming except you output HTML and take input from HTTP requests.
